A letter from Roman Catholic bishop Albert L. Fletcher of Little Rock (Pulaski County) was sent to Mother Mary Barrett, prioress of a Carmelite order based in Loretto, Pennsylvania, inviting establishment of a contemplative order in the Little Rock diocese. The invitation prompted five members of the order to relocate to Little Rock plus several other applicants who joined after their arrival to form a community that was housed at 812 Louisiana Street for several years before moving to its location on 32nd Street in southwest Little Rock. The mission of the order is to serve the Church through prayers.
