July 12, 1979

The Chicago White Sox, managed by Forrest City (St. Francis County) native Don Kessinger, forfeited the second game of a scheduled double-header when “Disco Demolition Night”—during which disco records were burned on field between the games—turned into a violent event that damaged the field and made it impossible for the second game to be played. Kessinger is the only player born in Arkansas ever to have both played in and managed in the major leagues. Kessinger played twelve seasons for the Chicago Cubs and three for the St. Louis Cardinals before he was signed by the Chicago White Sox in 1979.
