The remnants of the Hernando de Soto expedition crossed the threshold into Caddo Indian country, entering a nation uniquely distinguished by language, social structure, tradition, and way of life. The Spaniards’ encounters with the Caddo in southwest Arkansas enter written history in the chronicles of the expedition.
