The town of Vilonia (Faulkner County) was incorporated. The original name was Vilsonia, but a typo at the post office caused the approved form to come back with its current name on it. Modern-day Vilonia has a city hall, a fire department, a police department, banks, restaurants, stores, and other services. The fire department hosts Fall Fest at Halloween with a free carnival featuring games, candy, and prizes. There is no industry in Vilonia and only minimal agriculture; most citizens work in nearby cities of Conway (Faulkner County) and Little Rock (Pulaski County). Vilonia boasts a noted educational system, however, and its elementary school was chosen by Redbook magazine as one of the 177 outstanding schools in the nation in 1997. On April 25, 2011, a tornado swept through Vilonia, killing four people and damaging structures.
