July 4, 1819

Andrew Scott became the first official of the U.S. government to report for duty at the village of Arkansas Post (Arkansas County) in the new Arkansas Territory. Scott later became one of the first Supreme Court justices of the territory, and Scott County, created in 1833, was named in his honor.
