The forty-second president of the United States, Bill Clinton, was born in Hope (Hempstead County). Clinton was the second-youngest governor in the state’s history and, in 1993, became the third-youngest person to become president. Clinton embarked on an active post-presidency, with his presidential library opening in Little Rock (Pulaski County) in 2004. His humanitarian efforts have included helping combat the AIDS epidemic in Africa, contributing to relief efforts for the victims of a tsunami along the coasts of the Indian Ocean in 2004, and assisting with the relief efforts for the victims of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. In 2010, Clinton and George W. Bush created the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund to assist the people of Haiti after an earthquake there in January.
