Recognized by the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program as a visible result of New Deal policies of the 1930s as well as the best example of Classical Revival style in the county, the Lee County Courthouse of Marianna (Lee County) was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The need for a larger courthouse to serve the growing county arose by the mid-1930s, prompting a committee of local politicians to seek funding through the New Deal program known as the Public Works Administration. The courthouse was completed in 1939 and featured a limestone exterior with Ionic columns, arches, and pilasters.
