Prominent lawyer and Arkansas Supreme Court justice George Rose Smith died following a short illness. After graduating first in his class at Little Rock High School in 1928, he briefly went to Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, before returning to attend the University of Arkansas (UA) in Fayetteville (Washington County). Smith graduated first in his class from the University of Arkansas School of Law and then joined the Rose Law Firm, which his grandfather, Uriah M. Rose, had helped to found. His 1947 article titled “The Current Opinions of the Supreme Court of Arkansas–A Study in Craftsmanship” served as a catalyst for his appointment to a seat on the court.
