Award-winning novelist Daniel Black was born in Kansas City, Kansas. Black grew up in Blackwell (Conway County) and graduated from Morrilton High School. After graduating from Clark College, Black received a full fellowship to attend Temple University, where he earned both a master’s and doctorate in African American studies. One of Black’s most notable works, Perfect Peace, was chosen as the 2014 selection for “If All Arkansas Read the Same Book” by the Arkansas State Library.
