John Lawrence Markle, son of Academy Award-winning actress Mercedes McCambridge, perpetrated a triple-murder/suicide that shook Little Rock for years. In the late 1970s, after only eight months of successful trading, Markle had quickly risen to prominence in Little Rock after becoming vice president of Stephens, Inc. However, a fuller story emerged after he had murdered his wife and two daughters that revealed discrepancies in accounts, which led to the discovery of an extensive embezzlement scheme that had resulted in his firing three days before the incident.
