One-time Arkansas government employee Paula Jones filed a lawsuit alleging harassment by Bill Clinton in 1991 when he was governor of Arkansas. President Clinton denied the allegations and attempted to put off the trial and any related legal proceedings until after his presidency. The case ultimately landed in the U.S. Supreme Court where it was decided that Clinton’s role as the president did not protect him, nor did it prevent him from being required to sit for a deposition. In December 1998, the U.S. House of Representatives voted in favor of his impeachment.
