The town of Lafe (Greene County) was incorporated. Lafe is situated on Crowley’s Ridge and was founded by German-American settlers, with the community centered around the Lutheran church. No settlers had made a home in the area that was to become Lafe before German immigrant Herman Toelkin arrived in 1886. Toelkin eventually owned 1,000 acres of land in the area, and he became a prosperous farmer.
