American Foreign Services officer and diplomat James Sayle Moose Jr. died at the age of eighty-five. Born in Morrilton (Conway County), Moose represented the United States in a number of positions as a specialist in Middle East, playing integral roles in World War II and early Cold War diplomacy. He was known for his scholarly approach and his negotiation skills. In 1962, Moose retired from the U.S. State Department after nearly thirty-five years of service. He later taught international relations at the University of Massachusetts before returning home to Arkansas.
