Bavarian-born interior designer Paul Heerwagen, who had moved to Arkansas in 1891, is best known for his four lunette murals at the state capitol in Little Rock (Pulaski County). Heerwagen was paid $10,000 (quite a small sum; part of his work was really a donation) to prepare the four paintings, which he titled Justice, War, Education, and Religion. Heerwagen was awarded the state contract in June 1914 and installed the murals before the end of the year. Shown here is the mural Education.
