In 1982, Benton County native Field Kindley was inducted into the Arkansas Aviation Hall of Fame (program shown here). As a pilot in World War I, Kindley, with twelve confirmed kills, was ranked third in downed planes among U.S. Army Air Service pilots. Volunteering for the service, Kindley rose to the command of the 148th Squadron by the end of the war. In 1920, he was killed while rehearsing for a flight demonstration in Texas.
