In 1982, Asa Hutchinson (seated at the far left, next to his brother Tim and Governor Frank White) became the nation’s youngest district attorney. In 1997, he was sworn in as the Third District congressman. He later became the director of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and then undersecretary for Border and Transportation Security at the Department of Homeland Security. He resigned that office in 2005 and waged an unsuccessful race for Arkansas governor the next year, being defeated by Mike Beebe. However, he was elected governor eight years later in 2014 and reelected in 2018, serving until the beginning of 2023.
