In 1988, while digging a sewer plant line near Norman (Montgomery County), excavators unearthed human remains and artifacts that were determined by archaeologists to be Caddoan in origin. Upon the request of the Caddo Indian Nation, all remains and artifacts were reburied. The Caddo Indian Memorial was developed with a grant from the Arkansas Humanities Council in 2000. The memorial, now located on the burial site, consists of a one-quarter-mile trail, with twenty-one signs placed along the trail explaining different aspects of Caddo history.
