When El Dorado (Union County) native Lou Brock retired from major league baseball, he held the record for most career stolen bases (938), a record that was later broken. Brock started in the majors with the Chicago Cubs in 1962, but it was with the St. Louis Cardinals two years later that he began to make his mark. He helped lead the Cardinals to two World Series championships and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1985.
