In the 1970s, Black Oak Arkansas, named after the small northeast Arkansas town, became the first Arkansas rock band to achieve substantial financial success. At the peak of the groups fame in the mid-1970s, so many fans stole the Black Oak (Craighead County) city limit signs that the city council voted to stop replacing them.
