While Arkansas Nuclear One is the only operational nuclear power plant in the state, it is just one of nine reactor sites operated by Entergy Corporation. The pressurized light water reactor went online near Russellville (Pope County) on May 21, 1974. The most visible aspect of the facility is the 447-foot cooling tower, shown here in the distance. The plant ranks eighty-third in capacity on the list of the nation’s largest power plants.
