Carpenter Dam is one of two electricity-producing dams built by Harvey Couch’s Arkansas Power and Light in the 1930s. The massive dam, completed in 1931, is named in honor of Flavis Carpenter, the businessman who picked the construction site for the dam. Lake Hamilton, created by the dam, is one of the area’s most popular recreational sites.
