In 1992, Thomas Green was appointed as the director of the Arkansas Archeological Survey. The survey was created by the state legislature in 1967 and was the first statewide coordinated archaeological research and public service organization in the nation. From the office at the University of Arkansas (UA) in Fayetteville (Washington County), the director oversees the states network of eleven research stations.
