Of the seventy-five counties of the state of Arkansas, four have been named for rivers. On October 13, 1827, the territorial legislature named the newest county then to be created after the St. Francis River. The river is shown here flowing under a Highway 62 bridge at the entrance of Clay County from Missouri. Highway 62 is part of the Crowley’s Ridge Parkway National Scenic Byway.
