Shown here is the home of Archibald McKennon, located in Clarksville (Johnson County). McKennon was an original member of the Commission of the Five Civilized Tribes, later named the Dawes Commission. The controversial commission attempted to “Americanize” Native Americans by making individual land allotments. This home, built in the early 1900s, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
