Ruth the Elephant

The Little Rock Zoo’s elephant Ruth, who was purchased by the zoo in 1937 from the Engesser Circus. Ruth’s age at the time of purchase was estimated to be twenty-four. This photograph was taken in 1952; Ruth died in 1977.
