Sim Bateman

Dr. Simeon David (Sim) Bateman in front of his home at Surrounded Hill near the county line between Jackson and Independence counties. On the balcony are his wife, Mary Ann, and daughter Mary Connally “Mollie” Bateman. Dr. Bateman practiced medicine in the area of Jacksonport (Jackson County), Macks (Jackson County), and Elmo (Independence County) in the late 1800s and early 1900s. He died in 1914 and is buried in Surrounded Hill Cemetery. Bateman Township in Jackson County is named for him.
