Cullendale (Ouachita County) native William Edgar John, better known as Little Willie John, was a rhythm and blues artist and songwriter who charted a number of songs in the 1950s. A short temper resulting in a conviction for manslaughter in 1966 put an end to his recording career. He died in prison approximately two years later. Since his death, several of his songs have been covered by internationally known artists, including Madonna.
