Louis Jordan was born in Brinkley (Monroe County). Because of shortages of musicians during World War I, young Jordan began his musical career playing with his father in the Brinkley Brass Band. Many years later, Jordan traveled the country and influenced genres such as rock and roll and post–World War II blues.
